Show resume

Tribes is a dramatic comedy about a dysfunctional family. Beth and Christopher are two university scholars about to retire. Their three adult children come back to live at home. Billy, the youngest, is deaf. He learned lip-reading and oralism.
He falls in love with Sylvia, born from deaf parents. She teaches him sign language and introduces him to the deaf community. Their love becomes an explosive pointer for this family trapped in its rules, biases and beliefs. Behind the mask of language, irony, fights as expressions of their love, lie many more sorrows.
Through a corrosive and caustic humor, a unique approach to disability, the play shows a cultural and bourgeois environment. The family core, the tribe, as the prime location of violence and inequalities.

Compagnie 2052

2-1105822 Signatory of the OFF convention

The Compagnie 2052 was founded by Melanie Leray in 2012: it allowed first to develop the projects of her creations: Contractions by Mike Bartlett (2012), The Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare (2015), Tribes by Nina Raine (2017). The work of Melanie Leray is an exploration of the mechanisms of control and domination of a group of people over other in our society, whether is it is the business world, the couple, the family.
In 2018 Mélanie Leray started a work around a series of portrait of women, so as to question the work, to take its pulse through female figures: Girls and Boys by Dennis Kelly with Constance Dollé at The Théâtre du petit Saint-Martin (2019), and Viivane, based on the novel by Julia Deck (2020).
In parallel, the company supports creations by close artists: in 2018, Carnet de Poche created by Vincent Voisin.
